BroadwayWorld's Student Center High School Edition is back for another year! Just like the BWW College Center, the High School Center offers a directory featuring upcoming show listings for high schools nationwide. Schools can register for 'enhanced' listings on the site - adding in photos, cast lists, videos, links and more. Productions that take advantage of this will receive highlights on our listing pages, extra editorial mentions and potential spotlight features.

This week, BroadwayWorld is excited to profile the theater students of Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California!

The mission of Calabasas High School is to be a cultural hub for the arts, education and broad participation where the lives of students and the greater community are enriched; innovation and creativity are celebrated; cultural understanding is fostered; and where our students are prepared to be the leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs of the future.

Calabasas High School has a long tradition of producing high quality plays and musicals. On its website, the school epxlains that "the CHS Theater first opened its doors in 1975 and has been serving students and the community ever since. Originally, our theater was located in the north end of the "H" building (currently H209 and H210). It was there that Calabasas High School put on the its very first production, Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth directed by Eileen Daniel. Although it was small, it held several productions until our current theater was constructed in 1979. William Shakespeare's As You Like It was the first show to grace the current CHS stage. That year also welcomed Jim Gilchrist to head the theater program. He directed the program from 1979-1983 and again from 1989-2000. In 2000, Bill Garrett (former student of CHS) took the helm of the program and has been leading it ever since. The CHS stage has seen some fantastic productions over the years and we're sure it will see many more. Through the years, the love and devotion of the Calabasas High School students and staff have helped the theater arts thrive and it turned the stage into a home for many!"
